On 17th March 2008, Sir Tim Berners-Lee spoke out:
"It's mine - you can't have it. If you want to use [that data] for something, then you have to negotiate with me. I have to agree, I have to understand what I'm getting in return."

Indeed, in a separate interview with the BBC published on 28th March 2008, Sir Tim Berners-Lee told BBC News he would change his internet provider if it introduced such a system.

Ethics of working on Phorm

On 29th April 2008 the chief executive of the British Computer Society commented on Phorm and similar schemes:
"BCS members involved in work of this kind should think very carefully about the implications of these systems and the BCS professional code of conduct they have agreed to."

Perception of Phorm

On 27th November 2008 Thomas Newton, mobile phone expert at UK Web Media was quoted in BCS News:
"Whether the technology employed by Phorm is intrusive or not, the majority of people who've heard about it think it is and don't want their browsing histories viewed by anybody without their consent."
