Getting to Know Human Cloning

There are many controversies, questions, and debates that surround the entire topic of human cloning. Most people think that this is not impossible while others are still debating whether to support or shun this legion generation. Any announcement of successful human cloning will even cause more heated debate among people. There are many unanswered questions about human cloning that I want to address in this article. Many people have a strong belief that man’s life cannot be replaced and it has to be protected from inception by all means. To set facts right, let us begin getting to know human cloning to its core.

Form of Reproduction

Human cloning is a technological form of reproduction that was invented by scientists. In fact, their reproduction theory is far much different from the normal biological reproduction. In this type of reproduction, the offspring does not come from the union between a male and a female cell. Instead, the offspring is born through a deliberate replication of genetic makeup from single gender. This type of reproduction is called asexual reproduction. It is funny that the child will have only one parent; either the mother alone or the father. This offspring will possess the characteristics of the person who is currently existing or previously existed.

Name of the Technology

Most people have been asking which technology can recreate a person with similar characteristics of another biologically born person. The technique is popularly known as SCNT which means somatic cell nuclear transfer’. This technology requires the creators to introduce material from another person’s nucleus. We know that the nucleus is the genetic characteristic of a cell. They take a skin cell through SCNT and introduce it to a female egg cell known as an oocyte. After SCNT, the oocyte becomes an ovum which does not require a sperm cell for fertilization. The newly processed entity starts cell division, and it begins growing into a cloned embryo.

It is Not Accurate

Human cloning is not a perfect technology. The person that is made is a replica of the dead or existing gene donor. Human cells contain an organelle called mitochondrion which is responsible for respiration. And each mitochondrion has a piece of DNA which is used to define genetic instructions for protein synthesis. Due to the reason above, the scientifically generated embryo does not possess the exact characteristics of the donor.

Errors in Human Cloning

There are huge errors that are committed when cloning a human being to a new genetic replica of oneself. Since the technologically SCNT’ embryos miss the sperm and egg interactions, the process is prone to major errors. These errors render the clone to a random widespread of genetic imprinting and defects. In fact, these offspring have very high chance of developing cancerous cells. Consequently, the epigenetic defect is a misimpression of an incompatible cell. The clone which is immature is allowed to interact with the adult tissues; this causes a major hindrance for clone being treatment whenever a curable disease strikes them.…
